In a scathing critique during the ‘En Mann En Makkal’ padayatra in Gudalur, Nilgiris, K. Annamalai, the State President of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, slammed Nilgiris Lok Sabha MP A. Raja, likening him to an “absentee landlord” who has failed to connect with his constituents. Annamalai accused Raja of neglecting the issues plaguing his constituency and instead focusing on derogatory comments about Sanatana Dharma. Annamalai declared, “2G Raja, referring to the infamous 2G spectrum case, is like an ‘absentee landlord.’ Nobody in the Nilgiris has seen him. He is only here to cause problems and speak badly of Sanatana Dharma, comparing it to HIV and AIDS.” Annamalai went on to emphasize that Raja seems disconnected from the Nilgiris region and appears disinterested in addressing the concerns of the people. He suggested that the BJP, on the other hand, is dedicated to addressing the grievances of the Nilgiris residents. The BJP leader urged the people to consider electing the next MP from the BJP alliance, assuring them that their concerns would be heard and addressed. He also articulated the BJP’s commitment to eliminating poverty through targeted schemes for the underprivileged. Annamalai stated, “As far as I am concerned, there are only two castes in India – the rich and the poor. The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi want to eliminate poverty through schemes targeted at the poor.” He highlighted the Modi government’s achievements in providing housing, sanitation facilities, agricultural loans, LPG cylinder connections, and electricity to millions of citizens The ‘En Mann En Makkal’ padayatra in Gudalur served as a platform for K. Annamalai to convey his strong stance against A. Raja while rallying support for the BJP alliance in the Nilgiris constituency. As the political discourse in the region intensifies, the upcoming elections will be crucial in determining the direction and representation of the Nilgiris in the Lok Sabha.
