Directed by Mani Ratnam, the Ponniyin Selvan will be released as two parts.

Jayam Ravi plays the titular role aka Raja Raja Cholan while Karthi plays Vandhiyathevan. Vikram will play Adithya Karikalan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will be seen in dual roles of Nandhini and Mandakini. Trisha Krishnan, who plays Kundhavai has dubbed for her role in the film.

Speaking at the launch, Maniratnam said, ‘Thanks to my team it has become possible. Even the likes of MGR tried to do Ponniyin Selvan as a movie. May be destiny is that he left it for us to do’.

On his part, writer Jayamohan, who wrote screenplay and dialogues, said, ‘We all study about British invasion of ‘India in history. But very little spoken about valour and achievements of Chola empire. We should know the history of Tamil culture & pride’.

Sarathkumar, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Vikram Prabhu, music composer AR Rahman, cameraman Ravivarman also spoke on the occasion.
