Kannaiyan, who poured kerosene over himself and set fire against the demolition drive at Govindasamy Nagar in R A Puram succumbed to burn injuries in the wee hours of today in a government hospital in the city.

Protesting the demolition drive of the Water Resources Department and TN Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB), he set himself ablaze on Sunday.

Kannaiyan is a resident of Ilango street in R A Puram. The demolition drive has been taken up following a Supreme Court order.
