Chennai: Southern Railway has said it will levy a fine of Rs 2,000 for taking selfies by the side of tracks, near locomotives, overhead cables. Also, it has started a crackdown on footboard travel on suburban trains.
This comes after the Railway administration took a serious note of mishaps.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have been deployed to crackdown on footboard travel and other violations on suburban trains as more than 200 commuters have died after falling from trains so far in the city.
The violators will also be punished with imprisonment up to three months or a fine of Rs 500.
‘In the financial year 2021-22, 1411 trespassing cases filed under section 147 and 767 footboard travelling cases were filed under section 156,’ said an official release.
