Chennai: A BJP functionary was arrested for staging an incident in which he had set fire to his own car due to pressure from his wife to buy jewellery by selling it and complained that it was a handiwork by some anti-social elements.

Sources said BJP Tiruvallur West District Secretary Sathish Kumar (48), however, did not lodge a police complaint that his car was set ablaze by some people.

A police team, which reached the spot, found a couple involved in the incident based on theCCTV footages.

During questioning, he admitted that he had a wordy duel with his wife as she forced him to buy jewellery by selling his car. Angered by this, he had set fire to his car. The police arrested him and released him on station bail.
