Chennai: The Madras High Court has ordered the constitution of a Special Investigation Team by the Tamilnadu police to probe into the murder of KN Ramajayam, brother of Minister and DMK veteran KN Nehru.

On recording the submissions by the petitioner KN Ravichandran, brother of the deceased, the court transferred the matter from the CBI to the State police to proceed with the SIT probe.

However, the SIT will comprise police officers from TN police and CBI. While CB-CID DGP Shakeel Akthar will monitor the probe, Thoothukudi SP S Jayakumar will lead the SIT. The SIT has to submit a report before the court once in 15 days.

The Madras High Court last week directed the State government to submit the list of policemen who would be assisting the Central Bureau of Investigation which is probing the murder case of Ramajayam.

‘Though the CBI has taken over the matter in 2012 from the state CB-CID police, there is no progress in the matter. Therefore, we pray for a direction to swap the matter to state police,’ senior advocate NR Elango appearing for the petitioner submitted. Ramajayam was brutally murdered in 2012.
