Chennai: An auto driver in Chennai was praised and rewarded for his honesty by the city Police Commissioner on Tuesday.

According to sources, Muniamma (52), a resident of Manali, had taken an auto on Monday to travel to her sister’s home in Kodungaiyur.

When she got down, she realised that she had misplaced her bag containing Rs 2,30,000 and 1.5 sovereign gold chain.

Subsequently, she filed a complaint at the P-6 police station in Kodungaiyur, following which officials began investigation.

A few hours later, autodriver Manikandan (31), found a bag in his back seat.

Realising that it could be his last passenger Muniamma’s, he went back to Kodungaiyur where he dropped her and returned her bag.

“Muniamma found all its contents intact and immediately informed the police station, where the items were duly returned to her,” sources added.

Following this, city Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Agarwal personally lauded Manikandan and rewarded him.
