Chennai: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday dismissed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts to quote a Bengali verse during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address last week.
Terming it as ‘show off’, she said that the PM is only reading out from a teleprompter.
“The public won’t get to see it. Only a few people know this. Earlier, it was a practice in the USA and the UK. Now we are seeing it in India,” she stated.
A Hindustan Times report has quoted the Chief Minister saying that she can speak Naga, Manipuri, Assamese, Marathi, Urdu, Gorkha, Odia, and Nepali, and has also learnt Vietnamese a bit of Russian.
“I have seen enough of this drama. I never show off. I feel proud because I can raise their issues and speak for them,” she said.
The Prime Minister on his monthly Sunday radio show, had taken a verse by Bengali poet Aurobindo Ghosh while pitching for the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaigns.
