Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation’s Health department has conducted a higher number of Covid tests to curtail the spread of the viral infection.
More than 10,000 tests were conducted yesterday and the tests will increase each day till 15 December, sources said.
The plan is to detect any rapid spread post festivities.
According to data given by the Chennai Corporation, this morning the tally of total positive cases was 4,354 which is at two per cent.
Since the lockdown, Chennai has recorded 2,12,504 cases of Covid-19, of which 2,04,328 have recovered over the months. The recovery rate in the city is at 96 per cent.
The most number of recoveries took place at Anna Nagar with 22,548 persons overcoming covid.
In fact, Anna Nagar has the second highest death toll in the city and the highest number of coronavirus cases.
It is reported that nearly 3,822 persons have died due to the viral infection.
As per records, 482 persons died in Teynampet, 432 casualties were reported in Anna Nagar and 423 deaths were recorded in Kodambakkam.
On 24 November, 10,295 tests were carried out by the City Corporation’s health department.
Currently, Anna Nagar has 460 positive cases and 387 cases are reported in Teynampet.
Places such as Manali have the least number of cases at 56 and Shollinganallur has 79 positive cases.
Nearly, 60.99 per cent of those affected with Covid are male and 39.01 per cent are female.
The viral infection has most affected people in the age group of 50-59 with 19.36 per cent belonging to this age group.
