Chennai: The anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) protest by Muslim groups at Washermenpet continued for the fourth consecutive day this morning.
Around 300 persons gathered at Kannan Road, near the Roundtana at Washermenpet, raising slogans against CAA, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).
The protesters said that they will continue the stir until the State government passes a resolution against implementing CAA. Adequate police protection was given at the protest venue. The protesters also demanded action against the police personnel who lathi-charged agitators on 14 February.
It may be noted that a few protesters and four from the police department- a woman Joint Commissioner, two women Constables and a Sub-Inspector- were injured in stone pelting. The protest turned violent when the police tried to vacate the agitators as they caused traffic snarls.
