Chennai: The Crime Branch CID has taken into custody a police Constable and his wife, who is a government employee, into custody in connection with the Tamilnadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) scam.
According to sources, Constable Muthukumar was arrested along with his wife Mahalakshmi who works as an Assistant in the Ezhilagam office here. It is alleged that Mahalakshmi paid Rs eight lakh to Jayakumar, the kingpin of the TNPSC scam, to clear the Group IIA exam and land on the government job.
Police have intensified the search for police Constable Sithandi of Sivagangai and the main accused Jayakumar. The bank accounts of the duo were frozen by CB-CID this morning. Jayakumar, a resident of Mugappair, is yet to be arrested. The CB-CID has promised a reward of Rs one lakh for any information about him.
In the Group IV scam, the candidates used a special ink, which disappears after a few hours. Jayakumar then re-shaded it to the right answers.
He got access to the answers scripts through one H Omkanthan, a Record Clerk of the TNPSC, who is under police custody. It may be noted that, the CB-CID arrested candidates and government employees who were allegedly involved in fraud in the Group-IIA and Group IV services examination conducted by in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
