Chennai: The two suspected terrorists who were arrested in connection with the murder of Special Sub Inspector Wilson at Kaliyakkavilai were today booked under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Sources said, cases have been filed against them under UAPA, apart from IPC Section 302 (for murder) and the Arms Act.
Following this development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in likely to take up further investigation in the case.
The two accused Abdul Shameem (29) and Thoufeeq (27) from Thiruvithancode near Nagercoil in Kanyakumari were arrested from Uduppi Railway Station, Karnataka. Subsequently, they were produced before Kuzhithurai court yesterday morning.
Shameem and Thoufeeq shot at an unarmed Wilson while he was on a routine vehicle check at Kaliyakkavilai in Kanyakumari.
The Tamilnadu ‘Q’ branch who had questioned the accused in Udupi got information that nearly 17 persons were involved in the case. The accused told police that they were trained for suicide attacks.
Sources claimed that the attack was carried out as terrorists wanted to take revenge on the Tamilnadu police and State administration who hindered their weapons smuggling activity and arrested their counterparts in Delhi. They thought that shooting a policeman would create fear among the force.
