
Chennai: Rajinikanth-starrer Darbar released on Thursday has managed a humongous Rs 2.27 crore collection at the box office in Chennai alone on day one.
The movie has collected Rs 23 crore gross across Tamilnadu, while the overall worldwide collections from across the globe is reportedly Rs 119 crore.
Directed by A R Murugadoss and bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the movie featured Rajinikanth as Mumbai Police Commissioner. Released in over 900 screens in Tamilnadu, the film managed positive reviews and Rajinikanth’s performance was widely appreciated by fans and critics.
Darbar was released in 4000 theatres in India and 3000 screening halls across the world. With a long festival holiday week ahead, trade pundits say the film would go to do more and break box office records.
