KD is about an elderly man, who overhears his wards planning to mercy kill him in order to claim his property, runs away from home and decided to tick off his bucket list after meeting a fiercely independent orphan boy named Kutty. KD (Karuppu Durai) is directed by Madhumita Sundararaman and produced by Yoodlee films.
The movie starts with an usual village wit essayed by KD. He went on to describe his family along with his likes for Briyani and compares the cooking style between his wife and daughter Selvi. KD (Mu Ramaswamy) is bed ridden for months and his five off-springs decided to mercy kill him. Selvi is the one who pleads her brothers and sister to not go forward with the plan. KD overhears the discussion and runs away from home.
Mercy killing a bed-ridden elders in the family has been happening for ages in Tamilnadu. Village elders join together and apply too much oil over the bed-ridden man or woman, force down coconut water through their throat which would make their body cold and organs would failure eventually.
KD meets Kutty in a temple and was in awe of his independent lifestyle. Though the movie has some resemblance from Rob Reiner’s The Bucket List starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson, it definitely is a need of the hour in Kollywood cinema.
KD speaks about a man who worked for his childrens as long as he remembers suddenly becomes a burden to them. The movie tells the open secret about how old-age is seen as burden to the family members and how they wait for the elderly people to die. This has been shown in a simplistic way possible without too much drama.
Kutty played by Naga Vishal seems like a natural actor and there is no doubt he would shine in Kollywood industry in near future. His wit, punchlines and body language are impeccable. Music by Karthikeya Murthy adds strength.
The duo plans to tick of KD’s wishes like eating briyani, acting in a movie to riding a bike with his friend and the chemistry between them is off the charts. Meanwhile, KD’s childrens hire a neighbourhood investigator (Yog Japee) to find him soon.
The duo plans to visit KD’s childhood sweetheart Valli and their reunion was notable in the movie. Valli also advises KD and ask him to decide carefully about Kutty’s future. KD realises that he can’t be with him for many years and decides to send him off to Chennai to study with full scholarship.
After a roller-coaster journey between the duo, KD was found by Yog Japee and was taken to his house. The remaining movie is about whether the family accepts him or they decide to mercy kill him again. Madhumita’s simplistic screenplay and Naga Vishal’s natural acting are the hallmark of the movie.
