Chennai: Over 18,000 doctors belonging to Tamilnadu Government Doctors’ Association (TNGDA) are on an indefinite strike beginning from today in Chennai.

It is to be noted that the strike is happening amid rising dengue incidents in the State. However, the protestors state that they would attend emergency cases.

The list of demands include pay on par with Central government doctors, non-reduction of the number of government doctors and 50 per cent reservation seats for post-graduation seats.

Emphasising the needs, the doctors had organised a flash strike in August, following which State Health Minister Vijayabaskar had given in written promising that he would fulfil their requests. However, they state that he has not met the needs.

Later in the day, Health Secretary Beela Rajesh held talks with the protestors.
