Chennai: Aged just one-and-half years old, Amaira Menon, has made Chennai proud as she has entered the Indian Book of Records for possessing an ‘unbelievable memory’ at such a tender age.
A student of Wondar Kidz Play School in Mylapore, Amaira entered the records book since she could recall all the English alphabets, numbers from one to ten, names of 31 animals, 15 birds, 16 professions, 10 fruits, nine insects, 19 body parts and seven vehicles and also antonyms of 20 words. The record is very special as no other child has attempted such a feat in the country.
Speaking about their child’s achievement, Ajayalesh and Gayathri, residents of Mylapore, say, “It’s a very special achievement. We found out that she is very smart and intelligent and we first started telling her stories by reading books right from the time she was seven months old and we noted that she was a keen observer and grasped whatever was being told. Over the time, we started teaching her alphabets, fruits, vegetables, numbers and even rhymes and she also started saying whatever she has learnt. Since no other child of her age would say so much, by the time she is one-and-half years old, we realised that she is very special and thought of getting some recognition for this and that’s how we applied for the Indian Book of Records.”
When asked about their major role in this achievement, Gayathri says, “More than us teaching her, she was so interested that she would come to us pointing the book requesting us to read it for her. She was always very curious and wants to know about many things. So once we came to know about her interest we also started teaching and gave our full attention to her. Whenever a child is questioning something irrespective of what work we have, if we respond to them by answering it, their thinking capacity would increase.”
Asked whether they have plans to make Amaira set another record in future, they say, “We are going to coninue teaching her and based on how she progresses she might set another record.”
