Gold worth Rs 1 crore seized from six passengers in Chennai

Chennai: The Customs department seized three kilograms of gold worth Rs 1 crore from six passengers at the Chennai airport.

Five among the six passengers were women and they had arrived from Colombo.

The officials found their movements suspicious and subsequently intercepted them. Investigations revealed that they were part of a nine member gang.

The six person detained was a 38-year-old man, and he is said to be the head of the group. When officials physically examined him, they found gold concealed in his rectum.

A search of five women in the group also revealed that they had hidden the yellow metal in a similar manner, said a media report. The officials retrieved a total of 25 bundles, wrapped in red adhesive tape, from them. Gold rings and chains were among the items seized.
