Kochi: Benny Behanan, Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency UDF candidate and a senior Congress leader yesterday suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a private hospital.

Early yesterday morning, Behannan (67) complained of severe chest pain and was rushed to the hospital. He underwent angioplasty and is under 48-hour observation, said media reports.

On Monday, Behanan had filed his nomination papers as party candidate from Chalakkudy constituency for the coming elections. Malayalam film actor Innocent who is the LDF’s sitting MP, and A N Radhakrishnan of BJP are his main rivals.

According to media reports, UDF leadership would make necessary arrangements to conduct the poll campaign in his absence.
