A 45-year-old man was hacked to death by an unidentified gang at Ambattur while he was dropping his children to school.

According to sources, the victim Pandiyan (45) is also a DMDK party leader who contested from T Nagar and Villivakkam in the past.

He lived with his wife Selvi (40) and three sons. He also worked as a realtor. This morning at 8.30 am, he was taking his sons to school at Srinivasan Nagar. When he was at Maurdan Street junction he was attacked by a gang of five members. They began hitting him with cricket bats and then attacked him with a sickle. He died on the spot.

Korattur police sent his body to Government Kilpauk hospital for postmortem. Police registered a case and are investigating if the murder was due to elections or business rivalry.
