Around 30 CCTV cameras were installed in the 12th ward of Madambakkam, by Yeshwanth Nagar and Extension Residents’ Welfare Association.
A press release said the event was presided over by president Jayaraman. Selaiyur police station Assistant Commissioner Srinivasalu who was the chief guest, inaugurated the CCTVs.
Speaking during the event, he said surveillance cameras will be helpful in curtailing chain-snatching, eve-teasing and other crimes.
“Even if such incidents take place, the criminals can be easily identified and nabbed. The footage from the systems will be more than enough to be produced as evidence before the court and convict the accused,” he said.
Police Inspector Vijayan, Crime Branch Inspector Suresh, association office-bearers, members and residents took part in the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by treasurer Sankaranarayanan.
