Chennai: Southern Railway GM, R K Kulshrestha, launched a pilot project for the usage of hand-held terminals by Travelling Ticket Examiners (TTEs).

The project was launched here at Chennai Central station today. The tablet-like terminals will be used by ticket examiners and is said to include all passenger seat-related information. It is to be employed instead of the reservation charts which are widely used across Indian Railways. About 20 terminals have been issued to ticket examiners covering two Shatabdi trains bound for Coimbatore and Mysuru.

Speaking during the launch of the pilot project, Kulshrestha said, “Soon, it will be distributed to all travelling ticket examiners.’ He added, ‘Most of the passenger reservation charts have been turned electronic. So, this terminal will be useful for public as it gets updated with live information regarding passenger seat confirmation and other such data.”

He went on to note that this is part of the digital India campaign taken up by the Railway Ministry. He added that whatever errors that come up during this pilot project will be sorted out. “We have operations team in Delhi who will help us with technical assistance,” said Kulshrestha.
