Chennai: Investigations have begun at Parappana Agrahara central prison in Bengaluru where I-T sleuths were questioning expelled AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala for answers relating to documents seized last November.

In 2017, Income-Tax officials conducted raids in multiple premises that reportedly revealed undeclared income worth several crores. The raid lasted five days and the operation was said to be one of the largest in the country.

Documents were also seized in the raid at the Poes Garden residence of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa, where Sasikala was staying.

The I-T department officials had written to the State Home Department for a meeting with Sasikala at Parappana Agrahara central prison to seek clarification on certain documents seized during the raid.

The department had filed a request with the officials at the Parappana Agrahara jail in January and will question Sasikala until tomorrow (14 December). The prison officials had agreed to comply earlier.

The Enforcement Directorate also wants to question Sasikala for alleged Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violations, it is learnt.
