The Indian Coast Guard initiated a series of measures in wake of Cyclone ‘Gaja’ wherein ships and aircraft were on patrol since 9 November to safeguard lives at sea.
Soon after the patrol efforts were terminated Sunday, that Coast Guard units were pressed into immediate action as ‘first responder’ to an oil spill incident that took place during the early hours of 18 November at Ennore.
It happened when the discharge hose of Motor Tanker Coral Stars at Kamarajar Port, Ennore, suddenly ruptured and caused an accidental spill of about two tonnes of oil.
