Chennai: The State police will deploy a huge posse of 10,000 police personnel for Thevar jayanthi, the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar, at Ramanathapuram, Madurai on 30 October to ensure that no untoward incidents take place.

This year, the three-day event has elaborate celebrations to mark the 111th birth anniversary of the freedom fighter. Four Deputy Inspector General, 19 Superintendents and 45 Deputy Superintendent of police will be on duty.

The district has been divided into 12 sectors and a number of picket points have been marked with policemen posted here. Police said, action will be taken against those who violate law and order.

Few days ahead of the festival the police department detained a number of regular offenders. The event is celebrated every year in a grand way by the Thevar community in the southern districts of Tamilnadu.
