Chennai: DMDK chief Vijayakanth has been admitted once again to a private hospital here after falling ill. The exact reason and seriousness of his sudden ill-health is not known. But party sources said “it is a regular check-up and he will return home soon”.

Vijayakanth, affectionately called Captain by his fans and followers alike, has been suffering from ailments for the last few years. Just a month ago, he returned from the United States following five-week-long treatment and rehabilitation. It is to be noted that his ailment prevented him from attending the funeral of former chief minister M Karunanidhi. His tearful condolence video to the late DMK chief went viral.

Following his return from USA around 20 days back, a rumour was widely circulated on social media claiming that he was seriously ill and hospitalised. His son Vijay Prabhakar and DMDK’s youth wing head L K Sudhish refuted the news. Vijay Prabhakar even asked the fans and followers of the actor-politician to “not believe and spread rumours” and the DMDK released a press release saying that all is well with the Captain.

But Vijayakanth was hospitalised today. While some DMDK sources say that it is only for a routine check-up, other party cadres ask what is the need to be hospitalised if it is only for a check-up and seek clarity from the party high command.
