Chennai: A video of the cell where liquor baron Vijay Mallya is proposed to be locked up in in Arthur Road jail has been sent to a UK court.
According to reports, Mallya, who is a fugitive in England, is undergoing an extradition trial there in the Rs 9,000 crore Kingfisher Airlines bank loan default case.
Also charged with money laundering, Mallya recently said he had become the ‘poster boy’ of bank default and a lightning rod of public anger, and that there was nothing he could do “if politically motivated extraneous factors interfere” with his efforts to settle the dues.
He had been stalling extradition to India from England by citing the non-availability of comforts in the Mumbai jail. So, the Westminster court had asked the Mumbai Arthur Road jail authorities to send a video of the cell where Mallya would be lodged when extradited.
The liquor baron had complained that there was no natural light in the cell. Refuting his allegations, the jail authorities have prepared a video of the cell and despatched it to the English court.
