Chennai: A remand accused lodged at Puzhal Central prison for women attempted suicide this morning.

According to police sources, inmate Mythili (48), a resident of Mylapore, tried to kill herself by consuming a poisonous flower.

She was rushed to a Government Hospital and is said to be out of danger.

A source said, Mythili was arrested following police inquiries into the suspicious death of her daughter-in-law in 2017.

Yesterday, her son had come to visit her at the prison, it is learnt. She had taken the flower, crushed and consumed it. She soon fell unconscious.

Superintendent of police, Alli Rani sent her to Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital where she was provided treatment by doctors. Puzhal Inspector Nataraj is inquiring the case.
