An open letter to Mr Rajinikanth

Dear Mr Rajinikanth, First, accept my hearty greetings on your being conferred the Icon of the Golden Jubilee award of IFFI by the BJP government at the Centre. Of course, we are not treating this as an effort to paint you in saffron hue. Not that you wish it either.

Where losers are winners

I was at once amused, astonished and aghast at a couple of news items that appeared one below the other in a national daily. PayTM, a much touted desi payment app, hogged the headlines for two diametrically opposite reasons. One proudly proclaimed that PayTM’s parent company would be bidding for a sizeable stake in the private sector Yes Bank.

Why TN is forbidden land! — 7: ‘Hindi’tva Hegemony

Let me start with my now familiar invocation: When Sanskrit itself is being challenged, whither Hindi? Really, compared to Tamil, Hindi is a bachcha. It does not have much of a history, let alone literary history. Still, a brief on that brief history would put the present in perspective.

Modi’s DNA

Modi the politician and Modi the Prime Minister are but just minor manifestations of Modi, the mighty man. In these days of celluloid super heroes, India appears to have found an invincible one in flesh and blood. Not just elections…

A wave of waves

Poll pundits predicting poll prospects seem pretty sure there is no wave this time. How off the mark! If only these ‘experts’ were to see with their eyes instead of perceiving with their intellect, they will realise there are only waves all over the pollscape. And seeing is believing, mind you.

Count-‘less’ days

It was all over in a flash, the polls. And more than a fortnight has passed, since. The results are another three weeks away. I am not really bothered about the candidates who are on RAC nor their party leaders with their fingers crossed.

Life or death?

Desolation. Decadence. Decay. Destruction. Devastation. Death. Dissolution. The inevitable destination of the human race, jointly and  severally. So, why race towards it on our own when the natural order of all things is anyway headed in the direction of doom?

Post-poll pangs

I am writing this to inform you all, loyal readers, that I won’t be writing this week. There are many reasons for me to skip my regular column, some personal but mostly political.
