Deputy General Secretary of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) Alur Shah Nawaz has criticised certain leaders within the Indian National Congress, alleging that they are adopting ideological positions similar to those of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
In a recent social media post, Nawaz said it was “alarming” that some Congress figures appeared to be aligned with the RSS, despite the party’s historical opposition to the Sangh’s ideology. His remarks came in the wake of internal disagreements over comments made by senior Congress leaders comparing Tamil Nadu’s financial situation with that of other States.
Nawaz said that while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) openly acknowledges its association with the RSS, any praise or seeming affinity towards the RSS from within the Congress only weakens the opposition’s position.
The comments reflect broader tensions within the INDIA alliance as parties prepare for the 2026 Assembly elections. Critics say clear ideological stances are important for maintaining unity against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. Nawaz’s criticism adds to the ongoing debate within opposition ranks over strategy and alignment ahead of key polls.
