Governor R. N. Ravi, has stated that Tamil is “the most noble language,” lauding its heritage and emphasising the importance of spreading Tamil beyond the state.
Speaking at an event acknowledging the formation day of states like Nagaland and Assam, Governor Ravi described India as a vibrant “garden of many trees” — different states — which together form a beautiful whole, despite cultural differences.
He recalled efforts to promote Tamil across the country, noting initiatives such as the joint Tamil-diploma course launched by the Raj Bhavan and institutions in Assam. He expressed happiness that people from other states are showing interest in learning Tamil, calling it a source of unity and shared heritage.
Ravi urged that such gestures — sharing language and culture — help foster healthier communication and understanding among different regions of India. The remarks have renewed discussions about Tamil’s place in India’s multilingual identity, with advocates applauding the Governor’s emphasis on Tamil’s antiquity and cultural depth.
