Colombo, Oct 15: Rain thwarted the much-anticipated Women’s World Cup clash between Sri Lanka and New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Stadium, washing out Sri Lanka’s second innings entirely.
Sri Lanka, having batted first, posted a competitive 258/6. Their captain Chamari Athapaththu scored 53, forming a strong 101-run opening partnership, while Nilakshi de Silva dazzled with a blistering 55 off just 28 balls — the fastest fifty of the tournament so far.
However, persistent showers prevented New Zealand from even beginning their chase. The match was officially abandoned, and each team took one point.
