Around 4,80,000 people have applied for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) this year in Tamil Nadu.

Under rules, both “intermediate teachers” (who teach Classes 1-8 without a full degree) and degree-qualified teachers (with a B.Ed) must pass the TET.

The application process was held online by the Teachers Recruitment Board.

This many applicants is higher than most earlier years. In past tests, fewer people had applied.

The surge comes after a Supreme Court order. It says that even teachers already working must pass TET if they have more than 5 years left in service.

The exam is scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025.
