Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi met Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in Delhi. He asked the Centre to release long-pending education funds. He was joined by DMK MP Kanimozhi. They gave a memorandum asking the Centre to release ₹2,152 crore for the 2024–25 academic year under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme. They also requested an early release of ₹500 crore for 2025–26.
The SSA scheme, started in 2018, is a joint effort between the state and central governments to improve school education.
However, Tamil Nadu says the Centre has not given its 60% share of the funds for 2023–24, which is ₹2,152 crore.
Both Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Minister Poyyamozhi have accused the Centre of delaying funds. They allege that the Centre wants Tamil Nadu to join the PM SHRI scheme in return.
