The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has announced a major protest tomorrow in Chennai’s Sivananda Road, demanding a judicial inquiry into the death of guard Ajith Kumar.
The protest, which is expected to see the participation of TVK leader Vijay, will be led by the party’s general secretary, N. Anand.
Ajith Kumar, a guard at the Madapuram Temple within the Tirupuvanam police station limits in Sivagangai district, reportedly died after being assaulted by police. TVK had initially planned a demonstration on July 6th to condemn this incident and press for a special investigation committee under the direct supervision of the High Court to conduct a fair inquiry.
However, permission for the initial protest near Egmore Rajarathinam Stadium was denied by the police. Following this, TVK filed a case in court seeking permission for the demonstration. The court, after hearing the petition, ordered the police to grant permission for the TVK protest.
In compliance with the court order, police have now permitted TVK to hold the demonstration on Sivananda Road in Chennai. The party aims to highlight the alleged police brutality and demand justice for Ajith Kumar’s death through this large-scale protest.
