Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) leader Durai Vaiko has expressed deep regret after journalists were attacked during an MDMK event held near Sattur in the Nellai region.
At the gathering, journalists were filming empty chairs when Durai Vaiko reportedly instructed party volunteers to stop them. In response, several aides rushed the reporters, assaulting them and seizing cameras. A police complaint was filed on behalf of the affected journalists.
Durai Vaiko, son of party founder Vaiko, said he was deeply pained by the incident and clarified that he has always maintained friendly relations with the media. He emphasized MDMK’s support for press freedom and stated that the party values democracy, including a free media.
He urged MDMK cadres to apologise and announced he would personally reach out to the journalists to express his regret and mend relations.
