The DMK Youth Wing launched a protest against the Union Government for not recognising the Keezhadi excavation report submitted by archaeologist Amarnath Ramakrishna.
The protest comes amid allegations that the Centre is suppressing Tamil heritage and pressuring for changes in the report.
The Union Culture Ministry has claimed the report lacks adequate technical evidence. Despite being submitted in January 2023, the report has not been published, sparking outrage from scholars and political leaders.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned the Centre’s approach, stating, “It’s not the report, but the mindset that needs to change.” He urged the public and students to join the movement to protect Tamil history.
DMK MP P. Wilson and Madurai MP Su Venkatesan accused the government of targeting Amarnath Ramakrishna for refusing to alter his findings. They termed his transfer from the ASI as politically motivated.
Writers, students, and activists have also joined the protests in Madurai and Trichy.
The Keezhadi excavations are believed to have revealed evidence of an urban Tamil civilisation dating back to 580 BCE, challenging existing historical narratives.
