On May 22, 2025, Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) General Secretary Premalatha Vijayakanth announced that the party will disclose its alliance details for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections on January 9, 2026. The announcement will be made during a major conference in Cuddalore. Premalatha emphasized that prior to this, the party will appoint coordinators for all 234 constituencies and undertake a statewide tour to engage with party workers and the public.Addressing a press conference in Namakkal, Premalatha highlighted the DMDK’s focus on strengthening its organizational structure and preparing for the upcoming elections. She stated that the party’s leadership, including herself and her son Vijay Prabhakaran, will travel across Tamil Nadu to meet supporters and gather feedback.
Premalatha also expressed concern over the increasing incidents of sexual violence in Tamil Nadu, referencing the recent verdict in the Pollachi case. She attributed the rise in such crimes to factors like alcohol and drug abuse among youth and called for stricter punishments to deter offenders.
Additionally, she addressed the issue of celebrity divorces, emphasizing the importance of understanding and compromise in marital relationships. Premalatha shared personal insights from her own marriage to the late actor-politician Vijayakanth, highlighting mutual respect and support as key to their enduring partnership.
