Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran has accused the DMK government of using the delimitation issue to divert public attention from rising law and order concerns in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking at a Neer-Mor (water and buttermilk) stall inauguration event in Ramapuram, Chennai, Dhinakaran alleged that the ruling DMK is misleading people by falsely claiming that Tamil Nadu will lose Lok Sabha seats due to delimitation.
Dhinakaran criticized the DMK government, stating:
“The law-and-order situation has collapsed. People are outraged. Murders and robberies are happening everywhere. To divert attention from these failures, the DMK has started a false campaign about delimitation reducing Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary constituencies.
He further accused the DMK of unnecessarily convening a joint action committee meeting under the pretext of discussing delimitation, calling it a diversion tactic.
“DMK and its allies are trying to mislead the people by claiming that Tamil Nadu’s development will be affected if there aren’t enough Lok Sabha constituencies,” Dhinakaran said.
Dhinakaran pointed out that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during his visit to Coimbatore, had already clarified that Lok Sabha constituencies will be decided based on proportional representation.
“The central government has not yet made a final decision on delimitation. In this situation, DMK’s joint action committee meeting is just an eyewash,” he remarked.
He also questioned why Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is asking for a 25-year delay in delimitation if he does not oppose it.
