Tiruchirappalli, Mar 24: Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has stated that if the BJP comes to power in Tamil Nadu, no new private schools will be permitted, emphasizing a strong focus on government school education. The statement was made during the first regional public meeting in Tiruchirappalli, organized by the BJP to explain the National Education Policy (NEP) to the people.
Speaking at the event, Annamalai highlighted the key provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) introduced by the Narendra Modi-led government:
Mother Tongue as the Medium of Instruction – NEP mandates that students from Classes 1 to 5 must be taught in their mother tongue.
Expansion of Tamil Medium – The BJP will ensure that Tamil is used for instruction up to Classes 6, 7, and 8, strengthening regional language education.
Optional Language Learning – The initial provision of making Hindi mandatory was modified under PM Modi’s leadership, allowing students to learn any Indian language of their choice.
Annamalai claimed that despite ruling Tamil Nadu for several years, the DMK government failed to implement compulsory Tamil-medium education. He credited PM Modi for working towards strengthening Tamil language education.
To create awareness about NEP, the BJP launched a signature campaign on March 5. Within 18 days, over 26 lakh people have signed in support of the policy. Annamalai criticized the DMK government, stating:
“People who looted public money, rowdies, and illegal liquor sellers should not be allowed to shape Tamil Nadu’s education policies. We will not accept it.”
Annamalai emphasized that if BJP forms the government in Tamil Nadu, it will implement a common education system for both private and government schools. He made it clear that:
No new private schools will be allowed in the state.
Government schools will be upgraded and transformed into PM Shri Schools to ensure quality education.
The BJP, he added, is committed to a revolutionary change in Tamil Nadu’s education system, making education more accessible and equal for all.
