BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai has accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) of using the Tamil language solely for political and commercial purposes rather than genuinely promoting it.In a statement, Annamalai strongly condemned a government event in Thiruvallur, attended by DMK ministers Panneerselvam, Ponmudi, Nasser, Thiruvallur MLA, and the District Collector, where the Tamil Thaai Vazhthu (Tamil invocation song) was not played before the event began. Calling this a violation of protocol, he criticized the DMK for disrespecting Tamil language traditions.
He further accused the ruling party of hypocrisy, alleging that while the DMK promotes the two-language policy, it simultaneously supports the establishment of private schools that do not prioritize Tamil education. According to him, the DMK opposes the National Education Policy’s (NEP) push for mother tongue-based education purely for its own political and financial gains.
“DMK ministers have disrespected Tamil by not playing the Tamil Thaai Vazhthu at their event. What new drama will Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stage to cover up this insult?” Annamalai questioned.
His remarks have stirred controversy, further intensifying the ongoing political battle over language policies in Tamil Nadu.
