The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has announced its decision to boycott the Republic Day tea party hosted by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi at the Raj Bhavan on January 26.MDMK general secretary Vaiko declared the party’s stance, accusing Governor RN Ravi of creating obstacles to the functioning of the democratically elected state government since assuming office.
“From the day he took charge, the Governor has been shelving Bills passed by the Assembly without granting his assent. This deliberate inaction undermines the principles of democracy,” Vaiko said.
He further criticized the Governor for allegedly promoting Hindutva ideology and disregarding constitutional principles. “MDMK has consistently demanded the removal of RN Ravi as Governor, as his actions reflect his role as an agent of Hindutva, trampling on the Constitution’s core values,” Vaiko added.
The decision by MDMK to boycott the event underscores the continuing friction between the Governor and the state government, with tensions rising over governance and legislative issues.
