Former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) has sharply criticized the DMK-led state government for allegedly neglecting the healthcare sector, especially during power cuts. He accused the government of pushing the healthcare system into a dire state by not ensuring necessary facilities like generators and sufficient medical staff in government hospitals.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), EPS expressed shock over a report from Manamadurai in the Sivaganga district, where it was claimed that doctors were absent, and hospital staff had to perform surgery using a torchlight for illumination. EPS condemned the situation, saying it highlighted the government’s failure to provide essential resources to the healthcare sector, particularly during power cuts.
“Government hospitals are being pushed to a critical state due to a lack of generators and sufficient medical staff to ensure continuous treatment during power cuts. I strongly condemn the DMK government for driving the healthcare system into this dire situation,” EPS stated.
He also criticized the Chief Minister, accusing him of being indifferent to the struggles faced by the people. “While the Chief Minister is hosting alliance meetings, he is completely ignoring the people’s hardships in the flood. Meanwhile, ministers seem more interested in celebrating personal events, such as birthday parties for their heirs, than fulfilling their responsibilities.”
EPS urged the DMK government to immediately wake up and prioritize the welfare of the people, focusing on their duties and ensuring that essential services like healthcare are adequately managed. “The DMK leaders must start caring for the people and focus on their respective duties to improve the situation,” he added.
