In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Chennai police arrested two Sudanese nationals for their involvement in selling marijuana and other narcotics. The arrests came after a covert operation based on a secret tip-off, which led to surprise raids across residential areas in Pallavaram and Tambaram, as reported by Daily Thanthi.Over 200 police officers participated in the operation, which targeted more than 28 locations in the two areas. During the raids, the suspects were found selling marijuana and other drugs, primarily to college students, raising concerns about the growing issue of drug abuse among youth in the region.
One of the arrested individuals, identified as Mohammed Aslam, was discovered to be illegally residing in India after his visa had expired. His involvement in the drug trade highlights the issue of foreign nationals exploiting the country’s porous borders for illegal activities.
Additionally, four more marijuana dealers were arrested in the Selaiyur area, further revealing the extent of the narcotics network operating in the city. The police’s swift action and coordinated efforts have significantly disrupted the operations of the drug ring.
In response to the bust, a special task force has been established to track down and apprehend other individuals linked to the drug network. Authorities are also working to identify the supply chains and prevent the drugs from reaching the streets.
