In response to the growing number of fever cases during the monsoon season, the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) in Chennai has inaugurated a special fever ward to effectively treat individuals suffering from various fever-related illnesses.
The recent rains have triggered a surge in the number of cases of viral fever, dengue, respiratory infections, and other vector-borne diseases in Chennai and its surrounding areas. In light of this, the hospital has set up a dedicated 50-bed ward specifically for fever patients.
Dr. Theranirajan, the Dean of RGGGH, officially inaugurated the ward on Thursday, emphasizing that the facility will operate around the clock, with doctors and nurses on duty to ensure the best care for patients. He also mentioned that although the majority of patients are currently seeking outpatient treatment, the influenza cases are likely to continue into December.
“At present, we are treating patients across 15 different wards, and the number of beds will be increased as the demand grows,” said Dr. Theranirajan.
With the onset of the rainy season, the special fever ward will help streamline the treatment process and provide necessary care to those affected by these seasonal illnesses, ensuring a well-equipped and efficient response to the rising number of cases.
The hospital is urging people to seek timely medical attention if they experience fever symptoms and to take precautions to prevent the spread of infections during this peak period.
