Pointing to a series of political murders and rising crime rates, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has called on the Tamil Nadu government to take responsibility for the deteriorating law and order situation and to resign from power.
In a strongly-worded statement, Ramadoss highlighted that three political murders occurred in a single day. AIADMK functionary Padmanathan was murdered in Cuddalore on Sunday morning. The same day saw the murders of BJP functionary Selvakumar in Sivaganga and Jackson, husband of Congress councillor Usharani, in Kanyakumari. Ramadoss stated that these incidents underscore a significant failure in maintaining law and order.
“The police should not close these cases by attributing them to previous enmity. They should have identified the threats and provided protection to these individuals,” Ramadoss asserted, emphasizing the need for a proactive approach to prevent such crimes.
Ramadoss also drew attention to the growing issue of drug use and drug-induced crimes in Tamil Nadu. He cited a recent viral video showing a 17-year-old boy, under the influence of drugs, attacking another boy in Chennai’s Kasimedu area. “This incident illustrates how easily banned substances are available, even to children, further contributing to the state’s deteriorating law and order,” he remarked.
He stressed that ensuring law and order is the primary duty of an elected government. “The government should make the police department act decisively. It must take responsibility for the political murders that have occurred over the last two months and resign,” Anbumani Ramadoss urged.
