CSG register their first win in TNPL 2024

Salem, July 11: In a thrilling encounter at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground on Wednesday, Chepauk Super Gillies secured their maiden win of the season in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) by defeating IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans by 15 runs.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Chepauk Super Gillies posted a competitive total of 157 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Pradosh Ranjan Paul’s unbeaten 67 runs off 46 deliveries, which included eight boundaries. Earlier, N. Jagadeesan contributed with a brisk 36 runs.

In response, Tiruppur Tamizhans faced early setbacks in their chase of 158 runs, losing key wickets at crucial junctures. Despite a valiant effort from S. Ganesh, who scored 61 runs off 35 balls, Tiruppur fell short and managed to reach only 142 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs.

The turning point of the match came in the penultimate over when Chepauk’s G. Periyaswamy claimed two crucial wickets for just 18 runs, tightening the grip on Tiruppur’s chase.

Earlier in the match, Chepauk’s fielding prowess was highlighted by captain B. Aparajith’s spectacular diving catch to dismiss S. Radhakrishnan and a sharp catch by Rahil Shah to remove Tushar Raheja, which further dented Tiruppur’s chances.

With this victory, Chepauk Super Gillies bounced back strongly after two consecutive losses in the tournament, showcasing their resilience and determination to compete at the highest level.
