Chennai Corporation is gearing up to address the persistent challenge of traffic congestion in the city with the construction of multi-level parking lots at four strategic locations. This initiative, part of the city’s ‘iconic projects,’ aims to ease traffic woes and enhance urban mobility through innovative solutions, all executed via a public-private partnership model.

The chosen locations for the multi-level parking facilities include C.P. Ramasamy Road in Alwarpet, Pulla Avenue in Shenoy Nagar, Valasaravakkam, and Kodambakkam. These sites were identified based on their high traffic density and the pressing need for additional parking infrastructure to accommodate the city’s growing vehicular population.

To ensure the success of these projects, the Chennai Corporation has initiated the process of gathering comprehensive traffic data to develop detailed project reports. This meticulous planning phase is crucial for designing efficient parking solutions tailored to each location’s specific requirements. The need for such initiatives has become increasingly evident, given the escalating congestion exacerbated by ongoing infrastructure projects like the Metrorail.

Moreover, the Corporation’s vision extends beyond these four locations, with feasibility studies already underway for multi-level parking in ten additional areas. Among these are prominent districts like Tiruvottiyur, Indira Nagar Third Avenue, NSK Salai, Poonamallee High Road, and Arcot Road. Some of these projects have progressed to the stage of submitting detailed reports to the Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board, with revisions underway to incorporate recommendations from the Finance Department.
