Residential areas in Tirupur also witnessed waterlogging due to the heavy rainfall, majorly in the Avinasi region. Along with rainwater, sewage also entered houses in Gandhinagar, Mummurthy Nagar, Angaripalayam Road, Valipalayam Road and fire areas under Tirupur Municipal Corporation.

Due to heavy rain in the Coonoor area of Nilgiris district on Tuesday, the mountain train service was canceled as landslides and trees fell on the Ooty-Mettupalayam mountain railway line.

The Southern Railway has announced that the mountain train service has been canceled due to the continuous rains, as landslides and trees may fall on
the mountain railway track at any time. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued an ‘orange alert’ for extremely heavy rainfall in Puducherry, Karaikal, and Tamil Nadu, in the wake of which the education minister of Puducherry announced a holiday for the schools in Puducherry.

“Orange Alert for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal! Prepare for heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) on November 22nd and 23rd”, IMD said.

IMD has forecast for the the city and its suburbs light to moderate rain that private forecasters and bloggers said may pull the region from a deficit this season.

After Monday night’s incessant rain, DGP’s office recorded 9cm, Collectorate 8cm and Nungambakkam 6cm. The streets were, however, mostly dry as the rain was less intense and water drained faster. This also prevented traffic snarls in the morning peak hours on Tuesday. By 7.30pm, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 6.6mm and 3.2mm rain. Cloudy weather also brought the day temperatures down to 26.1C and 26.8C, 4C and 3.3C below normal.

IMD officials said the rainfall was due to a trough/elongated area of relative low pressure in the easterly over Comorin area to westcentral Bay off Andhra Pradesh. The two cyclonic circulations over Comorin and southwest Bay of Bengal off TN have merged with the trough.
