The Tamil Nadu government has taken a significant step towards improving its rural infrastructure by according financial sanction of Rs 781 crore for the development of 285 rural roads and 141 bridges. These projects are set to be executed under the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for the fiscal year 2023-24.

The initiative aims to enhance connectivity in rural areas, which is vital for economic development, accessibility to services, and overall quality of life for the residents of Tamil Nadu.

What makes this allocation even more noteworthy is that 35 of the proposed bridges and 13 roads are a direct result of petitions received under the “Ungal Thoguthiyil Muthalamichar” scheme. This reflects the government’s commitment to involving the community in decision-making and addressing their specific needs and concerns.
