20 August will be an important day in Tamilnadu politics. The first state conference of AIADMK after Edappadi Palaniswami took over as the general secretary of the party is set to be held in Madurai on August 20. Over 20 lakh AIADMK workers are expected to attend the conference. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) announced that a statewide hunger strike would be held by the party’s student wing, youth wing and doctors wing on 20 August against the centre and Governor RN Ravi for their attitude towards NEET. Senior AIADMK leader and former minister D Jayakumar called the ruling party’s announcement to hold a state-wide hunger protest on August 20 over the NEET row as political vendetta and said the DMK party was unable to withstand the AIADMK’s preparedness for the massive conference in Madurai. Meanwhile, a senior DMK denying D Jayakumar’s claim said, ‘NEET exemption for Tamilnadu is an urgent issue. The fast is organized against the Union Government for refusing to scrap the exam which has killed several students in the state. This is also to condemn the irresponsible statements made by the Tamil Nadu Governor with respect to NEET, he added.
